What We Need from the Homeowner

Homeowners wishing to add solar need to learn how a house fire is fought. As a homeowner, you pay for firefighting services that you will likely never use. But if you need them, you don’t want conditions you’ve created to get in the way of the firefighters doing their job.

Talk to your fire officials and listen to what they feel the biggest hazards at your property are. It’s probably not the panels proposed for the south roof. Instead it may be dry brush too close to the house, or branches overhanging the roof, or gasoline stored in the garage.

Take action with the advice given. Make your property safer!

And ask your solar installer about ways to make your roof safer for firefighters. Remember — it’s not just that panels are in the way — it’s that they have electricity running through them.
